It’s competitive out here and some of the things businesses do to acquire new business are just plain wrong. You’ve seen it before – maybe you have been tempted to participate. A few untruths here, a dash of jargon there, mix in some fear and before you know it, unethical businesses who shouldn’t be doing well appear to be doing great! So why should you play fair when all the other kids don’t have to?

1. Your business reflects you. Choosing to do what is right by your customers, your community, and yes, your competitors, reflects a beautiful light on your business and on you.

2. Eventually, people know. Unethical business practices catch up with those who practice them. People eventually find out when they are being lied to and they don’t like it.

3. Your business will make it to the finish line. It is a sort of race isn’t it? As you persist in doing what you know is right your business will continue to grow. Word gets around and your customer base grows with your good reputation.

4. You will enjoy the journey. Business is living and living is business. It is a wonderful, wholesome feeling knowing you have done what is best for your customers and your community. Your life is good.

5. You set a standard. Instead of choosing manipulation and fear tactics to get new customers, you have set a higher standard. People admire you, your work, and what you represent.

  1. Hi Catherine,

It is so good to see your comments. My team’s principles are ethical, honest and transparent, we gain our clients, sustainable ongoing business and revenue generation. We don’t deal in “quick and dirty” campaigns because they do not work. Sure we lose some business as a result, my question is always, was the business worth having? Does a client insisting on a “quick and dirty” campaign respect ethical and appropriate business practice? Accept that type of business and you and your team are heading for soul destruction. If everyone stood their ground and stated the truth about a marketing or PR campaign, there would be an acceptance for what is realistically achievable.
